Overview
With effect from March 2024, my clinical practice has been undertaken solely at the Royal South Hants (RSH) Surgical Unit, where I am employed on a Sessional Contract by the Practice Plus Group (PPG), and where I undertake outpatient clinics and operating sessions.
Practice Plus Group contracts with the NHS as a Surgical Hub to provide surgical services to the local population free of charge, as with any NHS procedure.
The services are provided solely by senior and experienced consultant surgeons in their designated specialities, and waiting times for NHS outpatient appointments and operations are generally much shorter than in the local major NHS hospitals.
NHS Caseload
Specifically, and primarily, I operate on the following conditions on men and women:
- Inguinal Hernia Repairs, excluding laparoscopic procedures.
- Femoral Hernia Repairs
- Incisional Hernias
- Umbilical Hernia Repairs
- Skin lesions, “lumps and bumps”, lipomas, Sebaceous cysts and minor non-cosmetic diagnostic and therapeutic “plastic” surgical procedures.
Most patients are treated as day cases, and under general or local anaesthetic by prior agreement, but overnight inpatient ward facilities are available where necessary.
It is important to be aware that the RSH does not have Intensive Care or High Dependency wards, so we are necessarily selective of casework at the Hospital, and our anaesthetists enforce strict rules in our pre-assessment service as to who may and may not be treated here for clinical safety reasons.
Exclusion criteria include a body mass index of over 40, and a range of heart and lung conditions, for which reasons patients will be referred to Southampton General Hospital. Patients wishing to be considered for treatment on an NHS basis at the PPG RSH Surgical Hub should seek referral by their GP, to arrange an outpatient appointment for clinical assessment in the first instance.
Self Pay Caseload
In addition to NHS Care, PPG offers a facility for patients to contract self pay for treatment at the hospital at highly competitive rates when compared with the primary private hospital groups.
Patients who elect for self pay treatment may do so because no contract exists with their local NHS providers, or because they are seeking consultant care in a competitive timeframe.
Self pay patients are treated on standard operating lists with standard “no frills” facilities, and consultants are not additionally remunerated for self pay procedures.
Patients considering self pay treatment are referred to the company website,

or may wish to phone the hospital directly on 0333 321 1961.
